Player Bio

A right-handed batsman who occasionally bowls right-arm medium pace, Alex Hughes is an English cricketer who plays for Derbyshire County Club.

An academy product of Derbyshire, Hughes garnered praise for his attacking approach and was also praised for his captaincy when he captained the side in 9 limited over matches in the absence of the regular skipper, West Durston.

He made his Derbyshire senior debut in a T20 game against Yorkshire in 2011.

Two years later, he went on to make his first-class debut for Derbyshire against Sussex at Hove.

In 2016, Hughes went on to score his maiden first-class ton against Gloucestershire, registering an unbeaten 140 on a typical green-top wicket.

He had an impressive 2016 domestic campaign and as a result, Hughes was awarded a two-year contract extension with Derbyshire.

A classy right-handed batter, Hughes has been one of the most consistent players for Derbyshire over the last decade.
